Notes for Release 7.0.00.0

hpCommerce Orion Release Notes

Build 7.0.00.0

Released July 1, 2020

New Features and Functionality

  • Kit and BOM Import and Export
Now you can import Kit and BOM configurations via an Excel spreadsheet.  The import can be used to update existing Kit and BOM's or to add new ones.  The component items of the Kit and BOM's must already exist in Orion's Part Maintenance system but the parent Kit and BOM's themselves can added via this import.  The export tool can be used to export out of Orion, to an Excel spreadsheet, existing Kit and BOM's configurations.  This export file can then be updated via Excel and imported to update existing Kit and BOM set ups.  These tools will save you hours of manual effort to update multiple Kit or BOM's.  For instance let's say that you are replacing one component across the board in many Kits.  You can export out your kits, search for this existing component in the spreadsheet, replace it with the new component and then import the sheet.  This will update any kits that you have changed.  To access these new tools use [M-N-F1] Export Kits / BOMs and [M-N-N] Kit / BOM Import.

Improvements to existing Features

  • Kit Quantities now sent to Yellow Hat Web
You can now configure Orion to send an estimated quantity available for kits to your Yellow Hat Web website.  You can select if a Kit should appear on your website.  You can now also send an estimated quantity available too.  In the past Kits were listed as "always available" on the web.  Now you can control how many are available for shoppers by using this new feature.  To turn on this new feature use the option "Send Estimated Available for Kits" to YES on [M-E-Y-2] Configure Yellow Hat Integration.  This is great feature to help you keep your kits from being oversold via the web.

  • Ship-To Email Address and Phone Number have been added to Sales Order, Quote and Purchase Order forms
It is now possible to add and edit the Ship-To email address and phone number on these forms.  If this information is modified you will be prompted to save that to the ship-to master record for the given customer.  This information is then available for when the Sales Order, Invoice, Quote or Purchase Order is emailed.  It is also passed through to the Integrated Shipping system.  While you are editing these forms this is a great time to add or update this information for a customer.  Having this ability right on these forms is a big time saver.  If you are using the optional Integrated Shipping system to ship UPS and FedEx you can now capture and pass this critical information directly into shipping so that the shipping notifications get to the right people.

  • New FedEx Box Sizes added to Integrated Shipping System
The special FedEx box sizes SmallBox, MediumBox, LargeBox and VeryLargeBox have been added to the Integrated Shipping System as default package size options.  This triggers FedEx to rate these parcels using any special rates that you have negotiated with FedEx for these FedEx supported box sizes.  This extends the benefit of the Integrated Shipping System to support special negotiated pricing that you may have with FedEx.

  • Email Templates now support Default "CC" Address
Now you can supply a default CC Address to any Email Template that you design.  If supplied the email, for that template, will always been sent to the CC address.  This new CC function operates the same as the default BCC Address already available on the Email Templates.  When the email is sent the CC address will automatically be sent a copy.  The user will not see this CC address on the email composition form.  It is sent "silently" to the CC addressee.  BUT, all recipients of the email will see the person that was CC'd.  Using this feature is a great way of automatically copying one or more people for a certain type of emailed document.  You will never have to worry again that a given person is receiving a copy of an email.  It also allows others to see that that person received a copy as a "reassurance" that they have gotten a copy too.

  • All updates to the Part Maintenance form's Note / Memo field have been removed
Now you can use the Note / Memo field without fear that the contents will be overwritten.  In the past information about various data updates was posted into this field.  This is no longer the case.

  • Note / Memo field can now show on Add Item form
You can not configure Orion to show the Part Maintenance form's Note / Memo field on the Sales Order and Quote Add Item form.  If you put valuable information into this field that you want your order takers to see during Sales Order creation you can now configure Orion to show this information.  If you turn this on this information will take the place of the currently displayed Item Memo field.  The Item Memo is still viewable and editable via the [F11] Memo function.  The Note /Memo field cannot be edited from this form and is for "view only".  To configure the Note / Memo field to display use [S-F7] to set the "Show Note Instead of Item Memo on SO/Quote Add Item Form" to YES.

  • XCharge / OpenEdge Payment integration can now be configured for Card Not Present functionality
If you have processing equipment connected to your workstation and you are using Orion's excellent, feature rich, XCharge payment integration you can now configure Orion to ask if the card is present during a transaction.  This is a great enhancement because it enables you to use a very nice "on screen" form for entering the customer's card data for the card not present transaction.  Prior to this feature the you had to enter the card data via the attached payment processing equipment.  To enable this feature set the "Has Device" question to YES in the "Workstation-Specific Configuration" section on [S-4] Configure Merchant Services.  You will have to set these settings on each workstation.

  • Images up to 1500 px are now supported
Specifically for our Yellow Hat Web integration but for storing images in Orion in general you can now select an image for storage that is up to 1500 pixels wide.

  • AAM Generic Stock Feed format updates
More tweaks have been made to this stock feed format at the request of AAM.  Orion has an amazing Generic Stock Feed system found at [S-5-F7].  This system can be used to configure a file to be sent to an email address or FTP site automatically once a day or once every XX minutes.  There are several standard export file formats to choose from, including a custom SQL format that can be used to send just about any configuration of product data.  There is a standard AAM file format that you can use to send product data and stocking status information to used by an AAM supplied website.

  • Labor support now added for Multiple Choice Kits and Decimal Quantities too
When setting up a Multiple Choice item it is now possible add Labor items as choices.  You can now also specify "fractional" quantities for Multiple Choice options.

  • Inventory Valuation by Line report has been Optimized
The report [M-L-F4-F7] Inventory Valuation by Line has been optimized to run very quickly for extra large data sets.  The improvement to this report is dramatic and for even the largest datasets the report generates in just seconds.

Fixes

  • A bug has been corrected that allow a user to provide a Quantity Available when adding a new item to the Part Maintenance form.  The bug allowed the user to provide a quantity available but also mark the item as "Control Stock" NO.  This bug then prevented Orion from maintaining the quantity on-hand for the item.  This is a very rare situation and was not likely to have affected many users.
