Notes for Release 5.0.02.0

hpCommerce Orion Release Notes

Build 5.0.02.0

Released April 24, 2018

New Features and Functionality

  • New Part Label - a new label can be printed for parts.  This is option "9 - 2.25 x 1.25 Zebra Printer" on the label printing menu.  This label is designed to print on a Zebra label printer.
  • Google Shopping Support for Yellow Hat Web - items can now be marked for export to a Google Shopping campaign.  Defaults have been added to the Line Code Maintenance [L-B] for Google Shopping support and also to the Part Number Maintenance eCommerce form.  This data is transmitted to an integrated Yellow Hat Web website.  Yellow Hat will then send this information to a Google Shopping campaign.  As of this build Yellow Hat was not setup to send information to Google yet.  This is a very exciting development as it will eventually allow users to setup a Google Shopping campaign to drive traffic to a Yellow Hat Web website.
  • Categorization Marketing Master - it is now possible to add marketing data to categories.  Technically the Categorization system is not a new feature.  But this is such a dramatic enhancement to this system that it qualifies as a new feature.  The Categorization system is used to categorize products in Orion.  These categories are then pushed to a Yellow Hat Web website.  They are used to dynamically build the category search feature that is a hallmark of all Yellow Hat Web websites.  At the time of this build this enhanced category data is not implemented on Yellow Hat Web.  To learn more about how the category marketing features of Orion work click HERE to watch a video.  Here is a list of the new features:
    • A marketing image can now be supplied
    • A marketing description can now be supplied.  The excellent and very fun to use WYSIWYG HTML editor is used to edit this description.
    • A "short" marketing description of 120 characters can now be supplied.
    • A list of "featured" Product Lines can now be supplied for each category.
    • A list of "featured" Sub- Categories can now be supplied for each category.
    • The user can now indicate if a category is to display a category "landing page" as part of search results.
    • The user can now indicate if a sub-category is to "inherit" its parent's category marketing data.
    • It is now possible to "format" the short-description of category.  The WYSIWYG HTML editor is used to edit this description.  The user can use this to highlight a given category by making it stand out with formatting.
    • The user can now control the order in which categories appear.  The categories can be sorted to appears as the user wishes.

Improvements to existing Features

  • Enhanced Label Descriptions - the descriptions for part labels have been enhanced.  For each label the size of the label and the supported printer is displayed.  A reminder that all labels are designed for specific printers and specific label sizes.  Labels will not print correctly for unsupported label sizes and printers.
  • Enhanced upload to Yellow Hat Web websites - the upload speed of updates to Yellow Hat has been dramatically improved.  It now takes less than 1/1000th of the time that it previously took to upload data.  This will allow updates for even the largest datasets to post quickly to a Yellow Hat Web website.
  • Enhanced Pick Sheet - The Pick Sheet that can be printed for a Sales Order has been enhanced.  Lines now separate each row of the sheet and additional tracking options have been added to the footer of the sheet.
  • Cash Tendered/Change Given Message has been expanded - this message now appears on all invoice formats and payment receipts.  If a payment method is "Cash" then this message will appear on Invoices and Payment Receipts.  This will allow the user to have a nice visual indicator and reminder of what happened for a given cash transaction.
  • Button graphic added to Show Me How buttons - the Show Me How graphic has been added to many buttons throughout Orion.  These buttons previously existed but did not have the graphic on them.
  • Enhanced Push Notification System - the notification system has been updated to allow one message per day per computer.  The first time the Main Menu of hpCommerce Orion is accessed per day per computer Orion will check to see if there are new notifications for the day.  If there are these notifications will be displayed to the user.
  • Orion Update System Enhanced - the last used "file backup location" is now stored and retrieved for subsequent updates.  This streamlines the process of applying new builds.
  • PDF Forms and Attachments System Enhancements - a number of enhancements have been made to improve the ease of use and flexibility of this system.  To learn more about how you can use this amazing system to improve your business processes see this video series HERE:
    • An "attachment" indicator has been added to the Account History form of the Customer Management form [G-F5].  A column labeled "A" has been added to the form and if an asterisks appears in this column this means that the document has an attachment.
    • It is now possible to continue to work with a Sales Order's attachments even after it has been invoiced.  The full compliment of attachment editing tools are now available wherever an Invoice is viewed in Orion.
    • The Show Me How button is now available anywhere where the Attachments editing form is open.  This allows the user to quickly access the video help system for the PDF Forms and Attachment system.
    • It is now possible to search by PLC and Part Number on the Search and Duplicate forms for Sales Order and Purchase Order attachments.
  • Bad Scan Audible Warning - the audible warning can now be turned off via [S-F7] Invoice/Sales Order Preferences.  This warning is emitted whenever a bad scan is made using Scan Mode to add items to a Sales Order or a Purchase Order.
  • Receipt Printer Invoice Enhancement - a bunch of enhancements have been made to the receipt.  This was already the best looking receipt of all time and it has been further enhanced:
    • To conserve space the country designation has been removed from the Sold-To block.
    • To conserve space the formatting of the Price Extended column has been changed to type number and not currency.
    • In the QTY column the indicator "FRT" will now be displayed for a freight line.
    • To conserve space the "Customer Account #" label has been changed to just "Customer #" in the footer of the receipt.
    • The default "invoice format" can now be set per computer by using the Workstation Settings on [M-W].

Fixes

  • Links in Push Notifications now open in the default browser for a given computer.  Previously they only opened in Internet Explorer.
  • Orion Update System fine tuning - various updates have been applied to the Orion Update System to remove false negatives and further streamline the updater.
